China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is one of the world’s largest construction companies. The company delivers projects in more than 190 countries. Every investment decision focuses on cost efficiency, operational reliability, and long-term return on investment.
During a high-rise building project in Indonesia, CSCEC adopted a different approach to temporary construction power. Instead of relying on conventional diesel generators, the company selected AMPD Energy’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to supply electricity for tower cranes and passenger hoists.
The decision was driven by solid financial analysis rather than technology trends. The project reduced energy operating costs by approximately IDR127 million per month, representing an 86% reduction compared with the previous diesel generator solution.
With an estimated payback period of approximately 3.5 years, the investment delivers strong financial value for medium and long-term construction projects.
Power Challenges on High-Rise Construction Projects
Reliable temporary power remains one of the biggest challenges for high-rise construction projects.
Permanent utility connections often require several months before becoming available. However, construction activities must continue throughout this period.
Most contractors operate a combination of grid electricity and diesel generators. Even after the grid becomes available, diesel generators remain on site as backup power.
This operating model creates multiple cost components. Contractors must pay for grid electricity, generator rental, diesel fuel, generator maintenance, and fuel logistics.
Tower cranes create another technical challenge.
An 80 kW tower crane motor can draw three to four times its rated current during startup. This high inrush current forces contractors to install oversized generators.
Oversized generators increase both capital costs and fuel consumption.
Projects located in urban areas also face strict environmental requirements. Noise and exhaust emissions from diesel generators often generate complaints from surrounding communities and complicate environmental compliance.
CSCEC Project Power Configuration
The project operated three tower cranes rated at 80 kW each and two passenger hoists rated at 36 kW each.
The total electrical demand reached approximately 476 Amps.
Before implementing AMPD Energy, the project relied on two 197 kVA grid connections supported by two 250 kVA diesel generators.
Monthly generator rental costs reached approximately IDR68 million.
Monthly fuel expenses added another IDR80 million.
As a result, the backup power system required approximately IDR148 million every month, excluding maintenance costs and potential downtime.
Engineering Analysis with PT ODG Nusantara Jaya
AMPD Energy engineers worked together with PT ODG Nusantara Jaya to analyze the project’s actual load profile.
The study confirmed that a single AMPD Enertainer L+ could supply the entire primary load.
The battery system required only 50 Amps of continuous charging current from the utility grid. This charging demand remained well below the available grid capacity.
Operational simulations also showed that the battery maintained a State of Charge above 56% throughout the working day.
These results demonstrated that the project could eliminate diesel generator backup without compromising operational reliability.
The analysis confirmed that Tower Crane Power Solution based on Battery Energy Storage Systems can provide stable power while significantly reducing operating costs.

Operational Benefits Beyond Cost Savings
Battery Energy Storage Systems provide advantages beyond financial performance.
Project operations become significantly quieter because diesel generators no longer operate continuously.
Fuel spill risks are eliminated, making HSE compliance easier to achieve.
Real-time energy monitoring is available through integrated 4G connectivity.
Project teams can generate accurate sustainability and energy performance reports for clients and project owners.
Construction activities also begin immediately each morning without waiting for generator warm-up procedures.
These operational improvements increase productivity while supporting ESG objectives across modern construction projects.
Modern Construction Requires Smarter Power Solutions
Construction companies today must deliver more than projects completed on schedule.
Clients increasingly expect lower operating costs, improved energy efficiency, and stronger environmental performance.
Battery Energy Storage Systems have become a practical solution that addresses all three objectives simultaneously.
By replacing conventional diesel generators, contractors can reduce operating expenses, improve energy management, and lower carbon emissions without compromising project performance.
Optimize Your Construction Power Strategy
If your project still depends on multiple diesel generators and temporary grid connections, now is the ideal time to evaluate a more efficient power solution.
PT ODG Nusantara Jaya provides comprehensive load assessments, energy consumption analysis, ROI calculations, and customized AMPD Energy recommendations based on your project requirements.
Together with AMPD Energy, PT ODG Nusantara Jaya helps contractors reduce operating costs, improve energy efficiency, and build more sustainable construction projects across Indonesia.
